McCarthy gained attention for supporting Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated claims about the 2020 presidential election.

Initially acknowledging Trump’s responsibility for the January 6, 2021, insurrection, he later downplayed Trump’s involvement.

Reports indicated a heated exchange between McCarthy and Trump during the insurrection when McCarthy sought assistance.

In early 2023, McCarthy faced historical challenges, losing the Speaker of the House vote 14 times before ultimately securing the position on the 15th ballot in the early hours of January 7th.

This marked the first time since 1923 that the Speaker of the House was not elected on the first ballot. However, on October 3, 2023, McCarthy was ousted from the position.
